The Scottsdale Community College Softball team picked up two wins on the day over conference foe Gateway Community College by the final scores of 8-0 and 4-1.

The Artichokes were led on both sides of the diamond today as their pitchers and defense only allowed 1 run all day, while their hitters and offense produced runs to take home the easy wins. Danica Cooke (SO/Thatcher, AZ) pitched a 5 inning shutout in game 1, which saw the Artichokes roll in 8 runs by the fifth inning and end the game early. In game 2 on the day, pitcher Kami Shull (FR/Queen Creek, AZ) had a stellar performance on the mound as well with the Artichokes only giving up 1 run in the second game. Lauren Castellano (FR/Albuquerque, NM) had a big day at the plate, sending 2 homeruns over the fence on the day, both solo shots in each game. Ashtyn Blakeman (SO/Mesa, AZ) also had a huge opening pitch homerun that got the Artichoke on board early in game 2. Scottsdale will have a little time off, and then they go back into conference play this Saturday as they hit the road to take on Glendale Community College for a doubleheader that begins at 12:00 PM.
