Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker in Region Semis
The third-seeded Scottsdale women's soccer team dropped a heartbreaker today, losing 2-1 to second-seed Phoenix in the NJCAA Region I Division II semifinal at PC.
The Bears opened the scoring with a goal in the 20th minute. They would take that lead into halftime and shortly after the break would go up 2-0 with a goal in the 47th minute. The Artichokes went a player down after a red card sent off Emma Olcan on a foul as the last defender back. That didn't deter SCC as they battled back to within one after Sydney Delaney calmly slotted home a penalty kick in the 85th minute. The Artichokes threatened in the final moments but were unable to convert the game-tying goal.
Scottsdale's overall record fell to 12-3-1.
Also, this week saw the announcement of the Region I, Division II honors. Scottsdale's Ava Fike, Emma Olcan and Sydney Delaney were named to the All-Region First Team. Teammate Raegan Hussey was named to the All-Region Second Team. Andrea Rivera and Samantha Battles were both Honorable Mention Selections.
