Artichokes Make Quick Work of Glendale; Advance to Region Final
Third-seed Scottsdale volleyball dismantled second-seed Glendale 3-0 tonight in the NJCAA Region I Division II Semifinals at GCC.
The win improves SCC to 13-6 overall.
The Artichokes entered the match having lost both regular season contests to the Gauchos. But tonight was a different story as SCC quickly took set one 25-13. The second set was much of the same with Scottsdale winning 25-18.
The Gauchos rebounded in the third and held an early 11-9 lead. The Artichokes then went on a 10-3 run to lead 19-14. Later with SCC up 24-22, GCC would fend off two match points. A service error gave the Artichokes a 25-24 lead. They then wrapped it up after a long back and forth point to win 26-24.
For SCC, Ava Anderson hit .478 with 12 kills. Tanner Robinson hit .320 with 13 kills and Anissa El-Ali finished at .278 and 12 kills.
The win sends the Artichokes to the Region Final which will be played on Friday, November 7 against top-seed Mesa at MCC. That match will begin at 7 p.m. Mesa swept four-seed Pima in the other semifinal tonight.
