Baseball uses late surge to down Mesa

Scottsdale baseball completed the two-game series sweep with an 11-3 road win over Mesa today.

The Artichokes are 18-17 overall and 12-12 in the league.

After a quiet first inning, Scottsdale broke through in the second with a pair of runs and never looked back. The Artichokes added insurance late, scoring four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings before tacking on one more in the ninth.

SCC totaled 11 hits, led by Carson Feddema, who went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Braiden Reynolds also collected three hits and scored twice, while Braedan Reichert delivered a home run and three RBIs. Ryder Florence chipped in with a double and two RBIs, and Cas Herold added two hits and an RBI.

Andrew Filimoehala (4-2) earned the win, tossing 6.0 strong innings while allowing just one run (unearned) on two hits and striking out eight. The bullpen combined to finish the game, with Carson Feddema and Ian Armbruster helping limit Mesa to three total runs.

Scottsdale's pitching staff struck out 12 batters and held Mesa to just five hits in the contest.

The Artichokes will now travel to Tucson for a doubleheader with Pima on Tuesday, March 24 at 12 p.m.
