SCC splits doubleheader at Pima
Scottsdale and Pima split a doubleheader in Tucson.
Game 1: Scottsdale 10 Pima 3 (8)
After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Artichokes responded in the second with a pair of runs to take the lead. Pima tied things up with a run in the fourth. Each team scored a run in the fifth and the game eventually went into extra innings. Scottsdale then erupted for seven runs in the top of the eighth inning, turning a close contest into a decisive win.
Braiden Reynolds led the way with two hits and two runs scored, while Luke Calendo and Ryder Florence each added two hits and an RBI. Brevin Matthews delivered a key performance behind the plate, driving in two runs, and Will Salihar chipped in with a double and an RBI.
Dalton Hanson delivered a strong start, going 7.0 innings and allowing three runs (all unearned) while striking out five. Logan Spetz (4-1) came on in relief to close the door, tossing a scoreless inning and earning the win.
Game 2: Pima 12 Scottsdale 4 (7)
Scottsdale plated two runs in both the second and third innings to take an early 4-3 lead.
Braiden Reynolds powered the offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, accounting for all four runs. Ryder Florence added two hits, while Will Salihar contributed a double.
Pima tied the game in the third before taking control in the middle innings. A three-run fifth inning gave Pima separation, and a four-run sixth inning put the game out of reach.
Scottsdale used multiple pitchers, with Luke Patterson getting the start and Jackson Roybal (2-3) taking the loss.
SCC plays tomorrow, March 25 at Arizona Christian. First pitch is 6 p.m. The Artichokes will then return home on Friday, March 27 to face Chandler-Gilbert. Please note that game will begin at 12 p.m.
