Artichokes sweep Bears; Move into second place
Scottsdale picked up a critical sweep at home against Phoenix.
The Artichokes are now 23-19 overall and 16-14 in the ACCAC.
Game 1: Scottsdale 4 Phoenix 2
After three scoreless innings, Scottsdale broke through in the fourth inning to take a 1–0 lead. The Artichokes added another run in the fifth, then extended the lead with two runs in the sixth. Phoenix College scored both of its runs in the fifth inning, but did not score again.
SCC finished with nine hits, led by Carson Feddema, who went 3-for-4 with a run scored and two doubles. Ryder Florence added two hits and an RBI, while Logan Spetz and Braedan Reichert each drove in a run. Dennis Gregory also scored a run and recorded a double.
Dalton Hanson (5-1) earned the win, allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits over 6.0 innings with four walks and five strikeouts. Feddema (2) closed the game with a scoreless seventh inning to record the save.
Game 2: Scottsdale 7 Phoenix 6 (10)
Phoenix College took an early lead with four runs in the third inning and added another in the fourth to go up 5–1. Scottsdale responded with three runs in the sixth inning and tied the game with in the ninth on a Will Salihar home run.
Scottsdale would plate the winning run in the 10th to complete the comeback.
Scottsdale finished with eight hits. Salihar provided the biggest swing with his two-run homer, while Ryder Florence doubled and drove in a run. Dylan Frank and Cas Herold each added an RBI, and Logan Spetz contributed an RBI on a sacrifice fly.
Logan Spetz (5-1) earned the win with 4.0 scoreless innings in relief, allowing two hits while striking out four.
SCC will next travel to Gene Autry in Mesa to face GateWay this coming Friday and Saturday. Friday's game will being at 3 p.m.
