Softball suffers sweep at CGCC

Scottsdale suffered a sweep at the hands of Chandler-Gilbert under the lights at CGCC.

The Artichokes are now 16-19 overall and 12-16 in the ACCAC. They are now in a tie for fourth with Chandler-Gilbert

Game 1: Chandler-Gilbert 14 Scottsdale 5 (5)

SCC opened the scoring with a run in the first, but Chandler-Gilbert responded with a nine-run bottom half and never trailed. The Artichokes added four runs in the fourth to cut into the deficit, but the Coyotes answered with a run in the fourth and four more in the fifth to close out the game.

Jacee Larson led the offense with a double, while Bella Gomez drove in a run and Hailey Estrella added an RBI. Alexandria Armstrong and Elena Esquivel each scored a run as part of the five-hit effort.

Abby Harrell (3-4) took the loss, tossing all 4.2 innings.

Game 2: Chandler-Gilbert 7 Scottsdale 5

Scottsdale scored once in the first and added two more in the second to take an early lead. CGCC tied the game in the first and broke it open with four runs in the fifth, then added two more in the sixth. SCC scored single runs in the sixth and seventh but could not close the gap.

Jacee Larson led the offense with two hits, including a double and a triple, and scored twice. Elia Palencia added two hits, including a triple, and drove in a run, while Kadence Braden doubled and drove in a run. Alexandria Armstrong also recorded an RBI.

Tyler Gordanier (5-10) took the loss, pitching all 6.0 innings. She had two strikeouts.

SCC will next host Phoenix on Saturday, April 4. The first game will begin at 12 p.m.
