Yavapai sweeps Artichokes in a non-conference affair
Scottsdale was swept in a non-conference doubleheader at home vs. Yavapai.
Game 1: Yavapai 6 Scottsdale 3
The Artichokes opened strong, scoring twice in the first inning to take an early advantage. Kadence Braden and Bella Gomez each recorded hits during the game, while Gomez, Hailey Estrella, and Elena Esquivel drove in Scottsdale's three runs.
After Yavapai answered with runs in the first and second, the visitors pulled ahead with a two-run third inning and never trailed again. Scottsdale added a run in the sixth.
Tyler Gordanier (8-12) took the loss, allowing two runs over 4.1 innings.
Game 2: Yavapai 5 Scottsdale 3 (9)
The Artichokes (20-23) struck first with a run in the second inning. After Yavapai scored twice in the seventh to take a 2-1 lead, Scottsdale answered with a run in the bottom half to send the game into extra innings. Each side scored in the eighth, but a two-run ninth propelled the Roughriders to the win.
SCC got a key swing from Jacee Larson, who connected on a two-out home run in the seventh. Kadence Braden added two hits and an RBI, while Elena Esquivel also drove in a run.
Kailyn Montoya (9-7) went the distance, allowing five runs (three earned) on eight hits over 9.0 innings while striking out five.
Scottsdale returns to conference play on Tuesday, April 21 when they travel to Tucson to face Pima. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
