Scottsdale falls in Region opener
No. 4 seed Scottsdale softball dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 1 seed Pima in its opening game of the 2026 NJCAA Region I Division II Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
After two scoreless innings, Pima (45-7) broke through with a pair of runs in the third inning and added another in the fifth to build a 3-0 advantage. The home team then sealed the win with four runs in the sixth inning.
Scottsdale (22-30) finished with nine hits in the loss but was unable to push a run across the plate. Alma Teilon went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Alexandria Armstrong and Elia Palencia each added two hits. Tati Solano and Kadence Braden also recorded hits for the Artichokes.
Tyler Gordanier (10-14) took the loss, allowing seven runs - four earned - on six hits over 5.1 innings.
SCC will next play an elimination game against No. 3 Phoenix (37-12) on Friday, May 8 at 9 a.m. in Tucson. Phoenix fell 3-1 to No. 2 seed South Mountain in their first game. The winner will play at 3 p.m. against the loser of the Pima/South Mountain game. The loser will be eliminated from the double-elimination tournament.
